Main Text: Colossians 2:6–10, 16–19 (NIV)
Additional Scripture References:
Growth is not random—it’s intentional. God is building us with structure, conviction, and maturity to carry the weight of His purpose. We are not just going somewhere—we’re becoming someone.
We are not just moving physically as a church or as individuals—we are being spiritually molded. Every act of obedience, sacrifice, and dependence is forming a structure that can withstand storms, resist deception, and walk confidently into the destination God has designed.
Colossians 2:6–7
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
Paul describes spiritual growth with architectural language—being rooted, built up, and strengthened. This tells us that growth is not chaotic or emotional, but intentional and strategic. God digs deep before He builds high. The foundation matters more than the appearance. Without depth, we collapse under pressure. God is shaping our identity, clarifying our convictions, and preparing us to carry His purpose—brick by brick.
God is not in the business of decorating weak structures. He’s in the business of building something that can withstand the weight of His calling.
Colossians 2:8–10
See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy... For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives… and in Christ you have been brought to fullness.
Paul warns the Colossians not to be misled by empty philosophies and traditions that are not rooted in Christ. In our culture, there are countless ideas that sound good, feel right, or are popular—but they can easily pull us off course. If our beliefs shift, our direction shifts. What we believe about Jesus directly affects our purpose, our identity, and our destination. Christ must remain the center—of our hearts, our churches, and our decisions.
If the enemy can’t destroy your foundation, he’ll try to distort your focus.
Colossians 2:16–19
They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body... grows as God causes it to grow.
Spiritual maturity isn’t about religious rituals or appearances—it’s about remaining connected to Jesus, the Head of the body. The danger Paul points out is becoming disconnected while still appearing spiritual. But we were not saved to go through the motions; we were saved to be transformed. Even in times of transition, struggle, or uncertainty, God is shaping you. Every hardship is an opportunity for molding, and every step of obedience is preparation for the purpose ahead.
You weren’t saved to sit still—you were saved to be shaped
This week, we're reminded that spiritual growth is more than an emotional experience—it’s a building process. God is not just helping us go through life; He’s forming something inside of us that can carry His purpose and presence. Growth without roots is dangerous. Belief without depth is fragile. But when we stay connected to Jesus and allow Him to shape us, we’re not just moving forward—we’re being built for the destination He designed.
Take time this week to examine the foundation of your life. Ask yourself:Am I just attending—or am I becoming?Choose one practical way to deepen your structure—whether it’s daily Bible reading, consistent prayer, fasting, joining a ministry team, or intentionally sharing your faith. Don’t rush through the process. Embrace what God is building in you and through you. You’re not just traveling—you’re becoming a temple that can carry His presence every day.
