There are moments in life where everything shifts.
You feel it. You sense it. You know something is different.
That’s what this message is about.
Not just a moment in history… but the moment. The hour when everything changed.
The hour revealed who God really is.
The hour made relationship with God possible.
The hour didn’t just change history… it changed what’s possible for you.
“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.” John 17:1
“For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.” John 17:2
Let’s be honest.
If most of us knew pain was coming… we’d pray for escape.
But Jesus doesn’t.
He lifts His eyes and talks about glory.
That’s different.
He sees the cross differently than we do. Not just suffering… but revelation. Not just pain… but purpose.
And that flips everything.
Because we tend to look for God in the obvious wins. The breakthroughs. The moments that feel good.
But Jesus shows us something deeper.
Sometimes… God reveals Himself the most in the moments we would never choose.
THE HOUR WAS NOT JUST ABOUT SUFFERING.
IT WAS ABOUT REVELATION.
In the culture of Jesus’ time, glory was often tied to power, dominance, and visible strength. Kings displayed glory through conquest. Authority meant control. Victory meant defeating your enemies publicly.
But Jesus completely redefines that.
Instead of displaying glory through force, He reveals it through sacrifice. Instead of conquering people, He gives Himself for them. This would have been shocking to anyone watching. A crucified Savior didn’t fit their expectations of glory.
And yet… that’s exactly the point.
The cross becomes the clearest picture of who God is. Not distant. Not cold. Not detached. But deeply loving, just, and willing to sacrifice to restore what was broken. This means that when we walk through hard seasons, we shouldn’t assume God is absent. Sometimes, those are the very moments He is revealing Himself the most.
Where in your life have you struggled to see God because the situation felt too hard?
“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” John 17:3
“I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world.” John 17:6
A lot of people think eternal life is about the future.
Heaven one day. That’s it.
But Jesus says something different.
Eternal life starts now.
It’s not just about where you go… it’s about who you know.
That changes everything.
Because now, this isn’t just about forgiveness. It’s about connection. Relationship. Access.
Not knowing about God. Actually knowing Him.
Walking with Him. Hearing Him. Living with Him.
ETERNAL LIFE IS NOT JUST LIVING FOREVER. IT IS KNOWING GOD PERSONALLY.
Before Jesus, access to God was limited and structured. The temple system created layers between people and God’s presence. Only certain individuals could enter certain spaces, and even then, it required rituals, sacrifices, and strict observance of the law.
There was always distance.
But through Jesus, that entire system is fulfilled and transformed. The barrier is removed. The relationship is restored. What was once restricted is now open.
This means your relationship with God is not based on performance. It’s not earned through effort or maintained by perfection. It’s grounded in what Jesus already finished.
Think about it like this. Before, it was like standing outside a house, knowing someone was inside but never being able to enter. Now, the door is wide open. You’re invited in. Not as a guest… but as family.
Do you relate to God more as someone distant… or someone personal? Why?
“I in them and you in me so that they may be brought to complete unity.” John 17:23
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
This is where it gets real.
Because it’s one thing to understand what Jesus did…
It’s another thing to step into it.
The hour wasn’t just about glory.
It wasn’t just about access.
It was about transformation.
Not improvement.
Transformation.
You are not just forgiven.
You are made new.
That means your past doesn’t define you anymore. Your mistakes don’t get the final word.
THE HOUR DID NOT JUST CHANGE HISTORY. IT CHANGES PEOPLE.
When Jesus talks about unity in John 17, He’s pointing to something deeper than agreement. He’s talking about identity. A complete transformation of who we are at the core.
In the early church, this idea of becoming “new” wasn’t just symbolic. It was radical. People left behind old identities, old lifestyles, even old social categories. Their identity was now rooted in Christ, not their past, status, or failures.
And that same invitation still stands.
Transformation is not behavior management. It’s not trying harder. It’s a new identity that produces new living. Like a tree that has been replanted. The fruit changes because the root changed.
So when we say “new life,” we don’t mean a slightly better version of you.
We mean a completely new you.
What is one area of your life where you are still holding onto the “old you”?
The hour has come.
It revealed the glory of God.
It made relationship with God possible.
And it opened the door to a brand new life.
This is not just something we believe.
It’s something we step into.
Let’s not overcomplicate this.
You already know what God is calling you to do.
Maybe it’s letting go of something.
Maybe it’s stepping into relationship.
Maybe it’s finally believing that you are made new.
Whatever it is… don’t stay stuck.
Take a step this week.
Not next month. Not “one day.”
This week.
Because the hour changed everything… but your response determines what changes in you.
God, help me see Your glory even in the hard moments
Jesus, thank You for making a way for me to truly know You
Show me where I’ve been living distant instead of connected
Help me let go of my old identity and step into the new life You’ve given me
Give me boldness to respond to what You are calling me to do this week
